Oxford Property

Most of us in the UK would say Oxford is famous for its University, boat race, old properties, students and dictionary!

North Oxford is the place to live but only if you can afford it! Oxford is very expensive whether you live in the city, north or south and this is partly due to an influx of London commuters. With fast train lines from Oxford to London it is possible to live your summer evenings in a great rural setting by the river Thames (Oxford).

Imagine watching the sun go down, drinking your pimms by the river Thames in Oxford and then the following morning crossing London Bridge and admiring the rivers grime below!

Whilst Oxford is in close proximity to London it still is a surprise that houses prices do compare well to towns closer to the M4 and Heathrow Airport. Staines, Slough, Maidenhead, West Drayton, Windsor, Maidenhead and even Reading are better positioned than Oxford. The M4 gives better access to London and more importantly access to the busiest airport in the world i.e. Heathrow Airport. The reason this point has been made is to highlight why rental yields (house prices to rental income ratio) were and still are a lot higher in Staines, Slough, Maidenhead, West Drayton, Windsor, Maidenhead and Reading than in Oxford. Apart from students the young seek out accommodation (mostly renting flats) near to the companies that pay them the good wages. Young professional workers do have the money, unlike the University students, and are prepared to spend the money on renting flexible accommodation near to their place of work. Hence, to rent a flat will always be the flexible option and young working professionals will always pay more rent than University students.
